On Monday, February 8, 2021, beloved husband and father, George Daniel LaRubio, passed away at the age of 71.
George was born August 8, 1949, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to George and Ruth LaRubio.
George honorably served his country in the Army. Upon return to civilian life, George worked as a florist until he became a New York City Transit Police Officer. After years serving as one of New York City’s finest, George returned to his work as a florist. In later years George found vital meaning in his work at the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship, faithfully archiving the words parables, discourses, songs, and stories of the Sheikh.
Although George resided in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia with his beloved wife, Janis, he was son of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn—a man of New York. George loved the food of the Italian culture he was raised with, summers in Coney Island, the Jets, the Mets, and especially his New York Rangers.
George was a man of many skills. He relished a job well done, and he was always there for others to lend a helping hand. Everyone who knew George knew he did not suffer fools, but also knew his warm heart. George loved to make people laugh and always had a funny story delivered in that perfect Brooklyn accent. George was well loved by all whom he encountered.
George was a devoted father who loved all of his children deeply and wanted the best for them. He cherished his wife, Janis. They shared a rare journey and a unique love through the years, forever and a day.
George was preceded in death by his father, George; his mother, Ruth, and his brother, Daniel. He is survived by his wife, Janis; his four children, Daniel, Christine, George and Michael; his mother-in-law, Jeanne, and his sister, Ruth.
A private funeral service was held at the Mazar of Shaikkh M.R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen in Coatesville, Pa., on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. So much love for my father-in-law George. Thankful for his goodness and his dedication t his family. He will be so very missed. Rest in peace. We love you!
