Julie Camburn—7/18/21

Julie Camburn, 79, a resident of East Falls for 43 years and since 2019 of Somerton, died on July 18 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was the beloved daughter of Annette McKeon, niece to Lawrence Devaney, sister to Michael McKeon, and aunt to “little” Michael McKeon, all deceased. 

She is survived by brother Joel McKeon, several cousins, many nieces and a nephew. Devoted wife of 49 years to Robert and mother of Christopher (Rita), Peter (Hannah) and Devaney.

Julie had 2 grandchildren, Jordan and Colton. 

Julie was a proud graduate of Little Flower High School and Immaculata University and attended graduate school at Temple University where she met Robert. She had been a music teacher in the Philadelphia Public Schools for over 15 years and directed the handbell choirs of the Green Lane United Methodist Church in Roxborough for 20 years.

In 1981 Julie opened About Face Typesetting and in 1991 launched “The Fallser,” a monthly newspaper dedicated to the news and events of the East Falls community.  Because of her Alzheimer’s she had to cease publishing “The Fallser” in 2015. Per her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine for the training and education of future physicians and scientists. A memorial service will be held at St. Bridget Church, Friday, October 22. Visitation, 9-10 a.m. Memorial Mass 10 o’clock.

Donations in Julie’s memory may be given to the Penn Memory Center and Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
