Carol Anne Hewit Clemente, 81 of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022.
Carol Anne was born on January 13, 1941, to Dr. Linus Worth Hewit and Ruth Williams Hewit in Bluefield, West Virginia. Carol Anne grew up in Tampa, FL, and graduated from Plant High School. Carol Anne spent her summers at Skyland Camp in the mountains of North Carolina and returned to teach archery as a counselor. She went on to attend Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia and graduated from Brenau University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Pi national sorority.Carol Anne taught school in Rockville, Maryland and Jacksonville, NC where she met Nicholas Clemente at the Marine Corps Ball at Camp Lejeune. The couple were married in Tampa, FL and moved to New Orleans, LA where they had their daughter Elizabeth Anne “Lisa” and later moved to Philadelphia, PA after Nick finished law school where their son Christian Hamiton was born.
Carol Anne was a member of the Junior League of Philadelphia and a member of the National Park Service where she was a guide at the Deshler-Morris House. She was a Docent at the Philadelphia Zoo and also spent her time teaching adults to read at the Falls of Schuylkill Library.
Carol Anne had many dear friends in her book club, which originated in her Philadelphia home over 50 years ago and is still in progress to this day. Carol Anne was an amazing gardener and a spectacular chef and enjoyed entertaining at her Mountain House.
She is survived by her husband Nicholas of almost 58 years, her daughter Lisa, granddaughters Delaney, Emily, and Mia, sister Becky Hewit Rauhenhorst (Neil), and niece Rebecca of Tampa, FL.
She was preceded in death by her son Christian of Philadelphia, PA and her brother Worth Hewit of Tampa, FL.
Friends and relatives are invited to a graveside service at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 215 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 on Friday, May 6th at 12:00 noon.
