FRANK’S STORY

Frank was the son of Pasquale and Loretta DiCicco. He worked early on with his Father repairing and making shoes. He attended St. Bridget grade school.

Frank enlisted in the Army at the age of 18 in 1943 to defend his country, instead of finishing high school.  He served in Germany in World War II as a Sargent doing Artillery Tank Duty.  Upon leaving the military he married his adoring Frances and had 3 children; Pat, Charles and Frank.

Frank worked for Ortlieb’s Beer Co. for 20 years.  Then he worked for the Phila. College of Textiles and Science until his retirement. He was always working side jobs painting to supplement his income. Frank was a great family man and Dad. Always taking his children with him wherever he went.

He had 2 brothers, Nick and Al.  Nick died at the age of 12 in 1931 due to an accident.  Al lived into his 70s.

Frank was the kindest man you ever would meet; always willing to help you. He could build a skyscraper out of the trunk of his car. His trunk was the Home Depot of the 60s and 70s.
His hobbies included bowling in his younger years. Frank once bowled a perfect 300 game in Tournament Play.He belonged to the Lenape Archery Club and was quite the archer. He was a better than average golfer and a winner in the East Falls Tournament several times.

Everyone loved Frank.  He was a friend to all and to know him was a blessing.  He will be so sorely missed.  R.I.P. “Pop.’

I read with interest “Frank’s story”. A man who lived through the depression, and world conflicts which followed that tough time in American history. And that period in American history made tough people. “The Greatest Generation”. We are all fortunate and grateful to have people like Frank provide the foundation for the generation I came from. I remember Frank as a fixture on Stanton Street. If I was delivering newspapers In the mid ’70s as a kid in East Falls, Frank was up and about early in the morning, offering a welcoming greeting. I remember Frank as a pitcher for the “Our Gang” softball team at McDevitt Rec in the ’80s. Hoping I’d be able to be physically able to do the same thing at a similar age. Frank’s story is that of a person who is eternally resourceful. A testament to never quit. Capable of surviving in any era. Condolences to the Dicicco family on Frank’s passing. East Falls, St Bridget, and humanity sadly lost another honorable member of the community.
