Regina Anne (Jean/Jeannie) Flanagan (née Hartsough) of West Chester, PA, formerly of Berwyn, died July 12, 2023 at the age of 84. Jean was born and raised in Chestnut Hill to parents Regina and Edward and graduated from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy (‘57). Jean graduated from The University of Pennsylvania (‘61) where she proudly played halfcourt basketball and belonged to the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
In April of 1961 Jeannie married Louis Flanagan and later joined him in Bangkok, Thailand where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. The young couple enjoyed traveling to Hong Kong while overseas. There she taught in the English Dept at Thammasat University. They returned to the states in June 1963 with toddler Maureen in tow and pregnant with Regina. Jean and Lou eventually settled in Berwyn where they continued to expand their family with Sean and Kathleen. She was an active member of St. Monica’s Parish for 40 years, later joining Saints Simon and Jude Parish in West Chester.
Jeannie was an active parent involved in her children’s school activities including the Malvern Prep Mothers Association. She gave generously of her time volunteering at Daemion House and The Family Support Center. Jean enjoyed a brief stint in public relations prior to starting her career as a realtor with Weichert, then Prudential Fox Roach where she was proudly awarded the Million Dollar Club Award. Jean enjoyed reading, antiquing, traveling, spending time with her grandchildren and cultivating her life-long friendships.
Jean is survived by her children Maureen Flanagan (Lyle Beckwith) of Alexandria, VA, Sean Flanagan (Lisa) of Malvern, PA and Kathleen Flanagan of Wayne, PA. She was the proud grandmother of Aidan Beckwith, Cormac, Lydia, and Daylen Flanagan as well as twenty-three nieces and nephews, and dozens of grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her former husband Louis and her daughter Regina K. Flanagan.
A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday August 1, 2023 at Saints Simon and Jude Parish, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:30-11:30 am followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:30 am. A reception for family and friends will follow at The Desmond Hotel in Malvern, PA. Her burial will be private and held at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to The Lewy Body Dementia Association.
