Thomas Michael Gallagher, affectionately known as “Pop” or “Gal,” passed away on July 11, 2024, at the age of 72. A resident of Lafayette Hill, he was the husband of Robin Gallagher (nee Mettinger). Born in East Falls, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Gallagher and Lillian V. (nee Dryden).
Thomas’s early education began at St. Bridget’s Grade School, followed by his graduation from Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia in 1969. Following graduation, Thomas proudly served his country as a Private in the Army with the 1st Battalion, 314th Infantry, 157th Infantry Brigade, and was honorably discharged. After his military service, Thomas devoted 35 years of his career to Verizon Telecommunications as a lineman.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Robin, and their children: son Thomas Michael Gallagher II (Stacy) and their children Julia, Alivia, and Ryan; and daughter Kristin Bevin Gallagher and her son, Liam. He is also survived by his older brother, Joseph T. Gallagher, his younger brother, Patrick J. (Judith) Gallagher, and mother-in-law, Joyce Mettinger, and his nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law Margaret Gallagher (nee Kelly), his brother-in-law Walter Mettinger Jr., and his father-in-law, Walter Mettinger Sr.
An avid photographer, cycling, and boating enthusiast, Thomas found joy in capturing life’s moments through his lens. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and had an innate talent for taking things apart and reassembling them, a skill he enjoyed throughout his life. Known for his engaging conversations, he never ran out of topics to discuss.
Thomas cherished family vacations to the Jersey Shore and Myrtle Beach, creating lasting memories with his children. A music lover, he enjoyed the sounds of Motown, Rod Stewart, and Bruce Springsteen. In his later years, he delighted in taking his boat out on the Delaware River and sharing his numerous hobbies with his grandchildren, capturing their sporting moments through his photography.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 9:30 am at St. Bridget Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be held privately.
Thomas will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Donations in Thomas’s memory may be sent to Roman Catholic High School.
