1933-2024

Joyce Gloria Mettinger (nee Pearl) of East Falls, passed away on December 4, 2024, at the age
of 91. Born on April 20, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick N. Pearl and Edna A. Hammerstrom, and her husband of 64 years, Walter R. Mettinger, her son Walter R. Mettinger, Jr, grandson Leo J. Heiler and son-in-law Thomas M. Gallagher. Joyce is survived by daughter Robin Gallagher and Sharon Heiler (Gerald), 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Affectionately known as “Joycee” and “Mom-Mom” she loved her family and friends dearly and was extremely generous to those around her. Joyce found so much joy and peace in crocheting and if you knew Joyce, you most likely still have an afghan or scarf she made for you or your child.

She enjoyed trips to the casinos and shopping anywhere, especially Boscov’s, Strawbridge & Clothier and the outlets. In her most recent days, her social life was filled with weekly events; attending church on Sundays at First Presbyterian of East Falls, bingo at St. Bridget’s and St. John’s, Wednesday lunches with friends and Saturdays spent with her family. Known for having the gift of gab and always ending a conversation with a “Toot-a-loo” or “Love ya Babe,” her daily phone conversations will be missed by many.

Arrangements were handled by McIlvaine Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 10-11:00am, followed by a memorial service at McIlvaine Funeral Home in East Falls. Interment will be held privately. Joyce will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
