Richard J. Mahan—8/6/2016

Richard J. Mahan, August 6, 2016, of East Falls.

Richard graduated from St. John’s High School, Manayunk. He served in the naval reserves for eight years.

Richard rowed for the Vesper Boat Club in the 1950s. In 1954, he won five national championships. He won four races in one day on July 4 in the Peoples Regatta. Richard won the John B. Kelly Award for Best Amateur Athlete and for winning the most races (25) that year.

He worked for Kelly for Brickwork as a superintendent for 50 years.

Beloved husband of Elaine. Loving father of Elaine Coady (Robert), Deborah Smith (Bryan), Diane Breesmen (William), Richard Jr., (Elizabeth), Carolyn Manzo (Vincent) and Robert (Luanna). Dear grandfather of Daniel, Matthew, Ashlee, Amanda, Kimberly, Richard III, Jaclyn, Thomas, Vincent, Matthew, Catherine, Olivia, and Robert. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Coady.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Thursday, August 11, 2016, 9-10:30 am at St. Bridget Church, 3667 Midvale Avenue, Phila. PA 19129. Followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Interment Calvary Cem.
