Eleanor Beck Schleicher—10/26/2023

Eleanor B. (nee Beck) Schleicher, longtime resident of East Falls, Philadelphia, died October 26, 2023, with her family offering support and love.

She was born in Fountain Hill, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1934.

She was a graduate of Moravian University with degrees in chemistry and biology.  She worked as a medical technologist at Ohio State University and headed the laboratory at Women’s Medical College in Philadelphia.

Attended Saint Bridget Church, where for 20 years she created elaborate flower arrangements for the altar every Sunday and particularly enjoyed doing large special arrangements for Easter and Christmas.

Horticulture was her special love and she put many hours into her garden. She was a well known creative designer of flower arrangements and won many blue ribbons for her work.  She was very active with the Outdoor Gardeners of Chestnut Hill and held many offices with the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania including chairman of the Council of State Flower Show Judges. Ellie loved to read and she was a former President of the Friends of Falls of Schuylkill Library. 

She played piano, made designer quality clothing, and painted in oils.  

She is survived by Henry, her husband of nearly 64 years, her daughter Elise of Virginia and grandson Matthew of Michigan.  For 40 years Eleanor was a resident of East Falls and for the last 9 years has lived at Cathedral Village in Andorra.

Eleanor’s funeral will be held at St. Bridget Church on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Visitation 10-11 a.m., followed by her Mass at 11. Interment will be private on a date to be determined.

    I have always enjoyed Ellie’s Floral decorations for St Bridget Church. Ellie was very talented and quite the lady.
