John McNicholas—6/7/2021

John E. (‘Jack’) McNicholas, of East Falls/Philadelphia, age 89, was called to Heaven on June 7, 2021, while surrounded by his loving family. Born November 2, 1931. Beloved husband of the late Lillian (nee Quinn), and dear son of the late James & Mary (nee Lynch).

Loving Father of James (Marge), Mary (Jonathan), Matthew, Rose (Richard), Edward (Megan), Dominic (Amanda), Monica, Thomas, Daniela (Tom), and John Jr. Cherished grandfather “Pop” of 20 loving grandchildren—Jim, Jr., Megan, Catherine, Andrew, Jacob, Madeline, Katie, Liam, Anna, Lillian (Lilly), Kellie, Paul, Ricky, Ava, Jack, John Patrick (JP), John Gus (Gus), Avery, Levi and Maverick.

Dear brother of James and Arleen (SSJ), also survived by 6 sisters/brothers-in-law, many cousins; loving uncle to 40 nieces and nephews and their families.

Predeceased in death by brothers Michael, Peter, and Edward, sisters Maureen (SSJ), and Kathleen.

Jack was a loyal parishioner of Saint Bridget parish, lived his Catholic Faith daily, and received a Living Faith award in 2016. He dearly loved his lifelong community of East Falls and the countless friends and relationships forged there over almost 90 years.

He was a proud graduate of Roman Catholic High School Class of 1949, and supported his school throughout his lifetime. John was a proud veteran of the Korean War and served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was a 37-year dedicated employee of the U.S. Postal Service, and was a Union Representative for his postal area for many years.  He coached Little League baseball and served as a league commissioner for 12 seasons with the East Falls Sports Association. He also worked at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science for 16 years.

Dad was loved and cared for by his daughter Monica over the last 15 years of his life, and deeply loved and appreciated all Monica did for him.

Dad lost his loving wife of 39 years, Lillian “Lil”, in 1999, and we know He was most happy to finally join her.

Dad loved all of his children as all great parents do, for their own special abilities, qualities and interests, and had a special bond with each one of them

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at Saint Bridget Church on Tuesday June 15th, from 9:00AM to 10:45 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Donations in his name may be made to Saint Bridget Parish or Roman Catholic High School.
