Mary A. McCool, (nee Matregrano), Dec. 11, 2021, age 86.
Loved wife of John; loving mother of John (Judy) and Jennifer McCool. Dear grandmother to Jacqueline and Jake. She is also survived by a nephew and three nieces.
Mary grew up in the East Falls section of Phila. and later lived in Cape May and Lafayette Hill. She was a 1953 graduate of J.W. Hallahan High School and played in their orchestra. Mary had a lifelong love of music and played piano to relax and sometimes to entertain.
In her early twenties Mary lived and worked for a time in NYC, an educational experience she valued for the rest of her life. Mary was known as a great cook of Italian specialties and her meatballs were considered legendary by all those lucky enough to partake. Her skill in home decoration was much admired as were her personal fashion sense and grooming skills. Some described her as stylish and elegant. This explains her success in selling cosmetics and women’s clothing which she undertook when the children were grown.
Mary took pride in the fact that her children lived up to her high standards of proper behavior and so were always welcome in adult company. Mary was an incisive judge of character and known for making quick and accurate evaluations of people and situations. She often shared her appraisals with humor and wit.
Interment will be private. A memorial celebration of Mary’s life will be held in the spring.
