Eugene C. Wernert, age 77, of East Falls, died December 26, 2022.
Gene is survived by his nephew and Godson Charles Russell Wernert Jr. (Christine Baehr); Russell’s daughter, Miranda Wernert; 3 nieces; Karen Wernert, Donna Reid and Meda Luscko; a great nephew Andrew; several great nieces—Mayleena, A’moreg, Zeneyah, Erin, Kristen and Courtney. Gene’s sister, Almeda Luscko, lives now in South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles August Wernert; his mother Almeda (nee McGowan) and his brother Charles Russell Wernert Sr.
Gene worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years.
When he was younger he liked to golf and to bowl. He also enjoyed owning and driving fast cars. His favorite was a 1969 GTO.
Gene was a devoted Philadelphia sports fan. His favorite teams were the Phillies and the Eagles.
Gene was a friendly guy and he had many friends in the neighborhood. We are relieved that he now can rest in peace.
Visitation and Service will be at the McIlvaine Funeral Home on Friday, January 20, beginning at 11 o’clock. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

My heart is broken my cousin Gene was one of a kind when I think of him I think of him laughing. He use to tease me because our ages were so close and he was younger for a day. We would get together and start laughing and not be able to stop at the most inappropriate times. Bet he is having a ball in heaven REST IN PEACE MY DEAR GENE. 🙏🙏
